Carol - Ceramicist
Carol graduated from Art college with a 2:1 with Honours. She studied Fine and Applied Art and has worked as an Art and Design Teacher from 2006. Alongside her teaching job she is an active member of the ‘Shore Collective’ and exhibits her work on a regular basis.
She draws on her passion for textiles and clay, and this can be seen clearly in her recent body of work. Specialising in Textiles and being fascinated by old Irish linen and lace, she impresses the texture of the cloth onto her ceramic surface. Often the lace will be something sourced from her grandmother’s treasured sewing box. Then carefully coloured oxides and glazes are chosen to best show the delicate lace and linen patterns in the clay.
She believes in the beauty of handmade objects. Making things with her hands is a deliberate attempt at slowing down, connecting to something deeper, and taking time to appreciate the pleasure of labour.
